Information
The fourteenth release on Pressure Sounds is probably one of the strongest releases on the label so far. Well Charged is a compilation of tracks from the Channel One label probably one of the most influential and productive labels to have ever emerged from Jamaica. Set up by the Hookim brothers in the early seventies Channel One was to be as influential in that decade as Studio One was in the sixties.

Just about every artist of note passed through the label during the seventies . Well Charged was the name of the Hookims' sound system and was also the name of their most successful record label. We have put together a selection of material that reflects the different Channel One styles of singers DJs and instrumentals with songs by Leroy Smart, The Wailing Souls, John Holt, Ernest Wilson and Earth & Stone, DJ cuts by Trinity and I Roy and instrumentals and versions by the legendary Revolutionaries this is a first class release. Nearly all the music is mastered from original master tapes and the sound quality is fantastic. An eight page booklet with photographs from the period acompanies the CD.

Well Charged

An excellent compolation from the very productive Channel One studio, both John Holt tracks are typical JH style, but the tracks that stand out for me are Leftist & Version by the Revolutionaries & Shaka the Great by the Overnight Players which are great instamentals/dub tracks.
Well done Pressure Sounds for unearthing some great treasures, & all for 11 quid, cant be bad!

Well Charged - Els Revolutionaries a Channel One

Track Listing

As usual, another winner from Pressure Sounds, with great sound quality and interesting tunes ... but the track listing is faulty and there seems to be some duplication of tracks where there should be accompanying vocal or dub versions, as applicable. I'd encourage Pressure Sounds to post for download (as a color .pdf file, perhaps) a revised/corrected back side to the liner notes.
