Information
Burning Spear's music is undoubtedly one of the cornerstones of reggae and he is probably the most respected roots artist of his generation. He has toured and recorded consistently for the last twenty five years and has always made music that is exceptional in both its quality and its themes.

Born in St Ann's Bay on Jamaica's North Coast he first worked with the legendary Studio One label before moving on to Jack Ruby and recording the epochal 'Marcus Garvey' album. Pressure Sounds have collected seventeen self-produced tracks that were recorded after 'Marcus Garvey' and never before released on CD including 'Travelling' 'Spear Burning' and 'Free Black People'. All were recorded and released in the mid to late seventies on his own Spear label when Burning Spear was at the height of his powers.

Photographer Dave Hendley has contributed a brilliant selection of unseen photographs taken at Spear's home in St Ann's Bay in 1978 which together with Harry Hawke's stunning sleevenotes make for a fantastic package. The vinyl release comes as a double album with a gatefold sleeve and contains one extra track to the CD.

'Spear Burning' will be Burning Spear's first major release for a number of years and he will be touring Europe throughout the summer (2001) to promote the album.

Scoop this sharp fire

Indeed, the Spear is buring on this one. For even a casual fan of the Spear, this is a crucial album. Its not often you find a selection of tracks from an artist's prime period that were not available on CD before. This album exposes some of the beautiful music that Winston Rodney was making and is a must have if you are looking for music from the early part of his career.

Unreservedly recommended

One of the best Spear albums available. Strong timeless roots music. Not a weak track on it. Buy this CD!

sounds from the burning spear

this is excellent material, wicked roots galore...
it's one of my favourite burning spear collections (next to his studio one killers and marcus garvey/garvey's ghost)...
the packaging is great with nice pictures and excellent liner notes (including interesting pieces of interview with the man himself)
bless!
