Information
Duke Reid died from cancer in 1974 and his nephew, Errol Brown, who had been a junior engineer at Treasure Isle and who would go on to become one of the key engineers at Bob Marley’s Tuff Gong Studio, took over the studio controls. He mixed three dub albums at Treasure Isle that dressed down and dubbed up some of the best of the Bond Street catalogue. Snatches of the original vocals were woven in and out of mixes that sound as fresh and as vital today as they did when they were first released… both in their original sixties incarnations and their seventies counteractions. ‘Treasure Dub Volume One’ and ‘Treasure Dub Volume Two’ have been available in various incarnations ever since. However, ‘Pleasure Dub’, the best of the set featuring Errol Brown’s cuts to rock steady classics such as ‘The Right Track’ by Phyllis Dillon, ‘The Tide Is High’ and ‘Riding On A High & Windy Way’ from The Paragons and ‘Things You Say You Love’ by The Jamaicans has never been re-pressed since its initial release. ‘Pleasure Dub’ is a record we have wanted to release for a long, long time and we are all delighted to be able to finally add a Treasure Isle album to the Pressure Sounds catalogue.

In addition to the incredible music, re-mastered to our usual exacting standards, we have retained the original artwork for the front cover and added an array of fabulous Treasure Isle photographs and graphics assembled by our usual team of designers alongside detailed sleeve notes that place the music in its proper context. This exciting release, a must for your collection, takes you straight to the real roots of the music… back to Bond Street and those very first versions.

Essential Dub

Dub Lp's for me are either inspiring soundscapes or just plain dull. This is the real deal, absolutley sublime. To be totally honest I bought this record not just because Tommy Mccook and Treasure Isle were its originators, but I thought if this is as good as its cover then its killer. It is. And Pressure Sounds should be applauded; as to still be re-issuing music of this quality after so long in this business is testament to all the people involved with the label. I love this record. Buy it.

Great choice for a reissue

Thanks to PS for re-releasing this album, which has eluded me for years. I haven't actually heard it yet but if it's as good (or better) than Treasure Dub Volumes 1 and 2 then I'll be very pleased. I did meet Errol Brown once when he was engineering for Culture at a London concert in the late 70s. I think it was at the Roxy Theatre in Harlesden. I meandered up to him when he was standing at the sound desk at the back of the hall. I shook him by the hand and said how much I liked his mixing on Treasure Dub. He looked a little surprised but smiled and thanked me. 30 years later Pressure Sounds are to be congratulated for making this long lost album available again.

Pure Loveliness

Many thanks for the review copy, I'll be dropping this on the Radio show asap. What a wicked release, I know a few who'll wait to be impressed by such early versioning as this, but keep this one on rotation in the car or at home for a while and before you know it you'll be fully in love.

Errol Brown: The Unsung Hero of Dub

To be honest, I'm not that much of a rocksteady fan, so when Pressure Sounds' latest promo came my way, I wasn't thrilled. However, this is yet another killer from the PS catalog. 18 cool Treasure Isle rhythms, dubwise - pretty hard to resist. Considering that dub didn't really come of age for several years after these tunes were originally released, it's a pretty unique set of dubs. Errol Brown is the unsung hero of dub if you ask me. Pressure Sounds have done it again!
